78 Card Story: Tarot Writing Exercise

78CardStory

This exercise is straight from Dusty White’s book, The Easiest Way to Learn the Tarot Ever , called Never-ending Story (exercise #10, pg. 36). This exercise is meant to be done aloud and with a group, but we’re going to do it a little differently and we’re going to use all 78 cards.

Directions:

Shuffle your chosen deck, draw one card, and then based on the card’s meaning, write/say a few lines or a full excerpt to begin a fictional story. It’s best to be quick and spontaneous so if you feel stumped on a card, pick another one. Put this card aside so you do not draw it again, as we go through the entire deck.

Feel free to use you’re imagination, go wild and have fun with it! Write a soap opera or a thriller. What ever comes to mind and listen to your intuition.

Here’s the example from his book:

Card 1. Four of Cups – “So, a man was sitting under a tree one day, looking at his cups when a hand popped out of a cloud and said ‘drink me’…”

Then draw another card and continue the story.

Again, here’s his example:

Card 2. Four of Swords – “…And the man says, “I’m not going to drink that! It’s poison and it will make me die!”…

As you can see, you can be literal or not so literal.

You may begin writing your ’78 Card Story’ with the cards I draw each post or you may draw your own cards. Either way, please post your story in the comments, so we can all learn and grow from each others’ input.

All cards from my 78 Card Story are drawn randomly. Enjoy and have fun!
