This week’s card to study is the Nine of Wands.
Esoteric Title: The Lord of Strength
In the Nine of Wands from The Druidcraft Tarot, we see a wounded warrior with a bandaged arm, waiting and watching for what’s to come next. He has stuck eight wands (spikes) into the ground at an angle, to act as a barrier of protection. Yet he still holds one wand in his hand just in case he needs it. In the background we can see a small fire and the smoke rising from it amongst a pale blue sky.

The number nine is the last of the single digits, the completion of the cycle. This is the higher self; you’ve reached the “horizon” because there is no other single digit to come next therefore, you are looking beyond them. Keywords: endings, completion, fulfillment, conclusion, fruition, reflection.
Experiencing worries or anxiety, the war is not over; final challenge, stamina, resilience, courage, protection, recuperation, being alert to troubles, discipline, wounded warrior.
- Wall of Wands – Not only are the acting as a barrier, they also represent his accomplishment of gathering all nine wands.
- Bandage – Yes he been wounded but, he’s still standing and has not been defeated.
- Pale Blue Sky – Although the fire below is still burning, the pale blue sky suggests today is a better day.
The Nine of Wands is a card of resilience and persistence. This is not a time to throw in the towel, no matter how tired you are or how bleak things may seem.
You have been through some tough times and you are almost at the finish line however, there may be one more hurdle to overcome, or not. This could be causing you to feel defensive, guarded and putting a wall up around you. In addition, this could be inducing worrying or anxiousness, as well as pessimism; worrying something worse it yet to come – internalizing the past and feeling worn out. But instead, you should be proud of yourself; you’ve come this far, you’re still standing, and you’re almost there – believe in yourself and don’t give up.
Career: If you’re working towards a career goal, you may feel like your hard work is not being recognized or paying off. Be patient and persevere. The end goal may be right around the corner.
If you are currently unemployed, you may be feeling defeated after going to interview after interview and not getting an offer or, after much networking you’re not getting call backs or seeing results. Once again, hang in there and keep fighting.
Romance: If you’re single and dating, you may be getting tired of the game. This may be a good time to take a step and reflect on what you want, what you need, and/or what you could possibly do differently, so you can stop wasting time dating those who don’t meet these needs.
If you not single, you may find that you’ve been fighting with each other, or bringing outside troubles home, and thus feeling worn out. This may be causing you to be defensive and guarded. Try to relax and be patient, until this time passes.
Questions to ask:
- Who’s supporting and/or has my back?
- How can I prepare myself for the next challenge?

it’s the size of the fight in the dog”

This is my interpretation of this card. It may differ from other Tarotists, and yours as well, and that’s okay. Please work to create your own card meanings; learning the Tarot is not about memorizing.
In addition, remember nuances of the interpretation may differ depending on the Querent’s question, the spread, the surrounding cards, and what your intuition may be telling you at the time.
